Winston Morton, CEO of Climative, has joined the Buildings Technical Working Group established by the Canadian Climate Institute and Business Future Pathways.
The group is developing the technical screening criteria for Canada’s Sustainable Finance Taxonomy, the framework that will define which building-related investments count as climate-aligned for lenders and investors. Buildings is one of three sectors, alongside Electricity and Transportation, moving toward final guidance in 2027.
The working group held its first meeting in August, bringing together representatives from engineering firms, green building certifiers, financial institutions, real estate owners, energy efficiency advocates, and academia to work through questions like electrification requirements for new construction and how acquisition of existing buildings should be assessed.
Climative has run home energy assessments for utility, insurance, and municipal partners across Canada and the US. That’s the practical experience Winston now brings to a group deciding how buildings qualify as climate-aligned under the Taxonomy.
